PRIMARY SCHOOL BOWLS PROGRAMME

Primary school bowls has become an annual regular fixture for the club and Waikanae and Kapakapanui primary schools.

This year was our third successive year, and with the help once again of a regular group of club volunteers, we ran a six-week school bowls introductory programme for Year 7 and 8 pupils in Term 3. 

Both schools have said how appreciative they are of the club volunteers’ kindness and patience with the pupils.  And from the volunteers’ perspective we take satisfaction from working with a great bunch of kids and seeing their enjoyment of the game.

We all can be proud of how the pupils develop their skills and improve over the course of the programme.

The FRANK van KAMPEN 

The 2025 programme was wrapped up with the annual Frank van Kampen tournament between Waikanae and Kapakapanui primary schools. 

This trophy is played for annually across a number of different sporting codes and we’re proud to have bowls included as part of the tournament. This year the tournament comprised four games of triples and four games of pairs.  Despite the very windy conditions there was some excellent bowling on display.  

While Kapakapanui had a great first round with four from four wins, it was fantastic to see Waikanae come back from that disappointing round and win three from four in the second round, making it a very close tournament overall.  

Congratulations to Kapakapanui on the bowls tournament win and congratulations to Waikanae on the overall Frank van Kampen win for 2025.
